GBA on the airwaves for Motor Neurone Disease

GBA are sponsoring a live radio broadcast in Compass FM and Lincs FM to support and raise the profile of the ABP Port Community Day which is taking place on Saturday 5th July.

Associated British Ports launched a fundraising appeal ‘Pedal the Ports’ on Friday 6th June in aid of Motor Neurone Disease.

Nick Palmer, the former Port Director of ABP’s Grimsby and Immingham Ports, has recently taken early retirement on the grounds of ill health in light of his battle with Motor Neurone Disease. His successor, John Fitzgerald, along with staff at ABP decided to embark upon this challenge to raise money for two specific MND charities at Nick’s request: – The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) – The Sheffield Institute Foundation for MND.

The challenge will involve visits to ABP’s 21 ports throughout the UK as they embark upon a tandem bike relay around the ports covering some 1,600 miles. The challenge, launched in Grimsby, will also finish at the port on Saturday 5th July where they will receive a very warm welcome back at the Port Community Day.

The Community Open Day will run from 10am to 4pm with a wide range of activities on offer, including river trips, exhibitions, fairground rides, stalls and coach trips around the port. All monies raised at the Community Day will also go to the nominated MND charities.

GBA are proud to be supporting the broadcast with Compass FM and Lincs FM radio stations and hope that through the advertising and broadcast of the event, many people will attend and help to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
